Mittagspause im Museum mit Renate Wagner-Redding, ehem. Vorsitzende der Jüdischen Gemeinde in Braunschweig, und Museumsdirektor Peter Joch

Ms. Renate Wagner-Redding will be our guest during the lunch break at the museum on 3.6.2026. Mrs. Wagner-Redding held the position of Chairwoman of the Jewish Community in Braunschweig from 1993 to 2025. She has received numerous honors for her commitment. In 2012, for example, she was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2022, she was made an honorary citizen of the city of Braunschweig at the Städtisches Museum.

In a discussion with museum director Dr. Peter Joch, Ms Wagner-Redding will talk about the development of the Jewish community and look back on her personal experiences and goals . In the 1990s, for example, she campaigned for the rabbinical position to be filled by a woman, Bea Wyler, she accompanied the construction of the new synagogue, which was inaugurated in 2006, and was committed to a wealth of cultural programs in the community. She will also talk about what the everyday life of a Jewish community in Braunschweig looks like in concrete terms, how dialog with other religions can be promoted and how the community can be permanently integrated into urban life.

After the short, approx. 20-minute tour, participants are cordially invited to continue their discussions over a drink and a piece of cake in the cafeteria.

The exhibition "With your own voice. 75 Years of the Central Council of Jews in Germany" was created in close cooperation with the Central Council. It is the only one on the subject in Germany. The exhibition can be seen at Haus am Löwenwall until 20.9.2026.

The Städtisches Museum is fully barrier-free. The Municipal Museum is a member of the Braunschweig MuseumsCard. It allows free admission once and permanently reduced admission on subsequent visits for one year to the seven largest museums in Braunschweig.
