Fans of high-caliber music know: the program likes to cover a wide range, stretching from here to there, from jazz to techno—and in this first week of August, even extending to classical music. The YEC—short for Young Euro Classic—is a Berlin festival that has been held at the Konzerthaus Berlin for many years and showcases international youth orchestras. Many years ago, the YEC was a guest on our rooftop—and we’re over the moon to welcome them back in 2026—three times this week, no less! To kick things off, the German Federal Youth Orchestra and the American National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America are joining us today in our *living room for a short concert.

On the program:

Pyotr Tchaikovsky, a movement from “Souvenir de Florence” for string sextet, Op. 70

Leonard Bernstein, several numbers from “West Side Story” arranged for brass quintet or sextet by Jack Gale

Dag Wirén, March (4th movement) from the Serenade for Strings, Op. 11

Antonín Dvořák, one movement from the String Quintet, Op. 77

The concert starts around 7:00 p.m.—before and after the performance, Ilo Pan will share carefully selected gems from his record collection.

We are very happy to present three short concerts by international youth orchestras this week right here on our rooftop. YEC—the Young Euro Classics Festival—is bringing four ensembles formed from international youth orchestras to our *living room. We’ll kick things off with the German Bundesjugendorchester and the American National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America.

Concerts will start around 7 p.m.—before and after: selected vinyl by our resident DJ, Ilo Pan.
