Mondo Generator
He has been in many bands and is still extremely busy. Nick Oliveri, formerly of Kyuss, formerly of Queens Of The Stone Age, mastermind of Mondo Generator, has always had one motto on various acceleration strips: to enjoy his life in stoner rock and hard rock. Because, according to the bassist and singer, the world is crazy and the good times are few and far between.
He was the bassist in Kyuss, he played with the Dwarves, and from the late 1990s to the first half of the 2000s he played with Josh Homme in Queens Of The Stone Age. He is also an extremely talented networker in the US rock scene and has repeatedly been able to recruit proven specialists for his various band and music projects: Among others, Nick Oliveri has already scored with Dave Grohl, Mike Patton and Brant Bjork with his good musician name.
Originally founded as a side project back in 1997, Mondo Generator has been Nick Oliveri's band of choice since he left Queens Of The Stone Age in 2004. The Californian skilfully plays the pithy shouter, is always straight and usually very fast, and plays his tried and tested role on stage: that of the tough guy with a bald head and impressive beard, who you'd better not drive into your car.
"Fuck It" is the name of Mondo Generator's latest studio album, and it's not just the title track that makes it clear once again what Nick Oliveri's musical DNA has been made up of for decades: stoner rock and hard rock, of course - but also a good dose of punk. The Stooges - the band that played punk before the genre was even officially invented - are just as much a part of Nick Oliveri's musical heroes as Iggy Pop as a solo artist.
