Moving Silence - Zeitgenössisches Stummfilmkino

In the organizer's words:

"Moving Silence" has set itself the goal of breathing new life into the art form of silent film, in which live music and image merge into a holistic poetic synthesis.

The Moving Silence events aim to expand the contemporary cinema panorama by drawing attention back to pure visual language, independent and detached from dialog, enhanced by live music performances in all their diversity: from acoustic to electronic, from concrete music to pop, from DJs to choral ensembles...

On this evening, "Moving Silence" presents four films that have never been shown in Berlin before: "My big love in my little dog", a story about love between pets and humans, "Schicht", a portrait of dreams trapped in everyday life, "Il settimo giorno l'abbaglio": two men, two solitudes, and "Juggernaut" - a medieval story with a dark and visionary atmosphere. The musical accompaniment will be provided by Youjin Sung on the gayageum, the traditional Korean harp, and Marco Brosolo on the synthesizers.

Musicians*:

Youjin Sung (Gayageum) has been playing gayageum since the age of 12. She studied traditional Korean music at the Korea National University of Art. She successfully completed her master's degree in 2008. From 2004-2009 Yujin Sung was a member of the Jeonggaakhoe Ensemble and the Gomool Ensemble. She has performed as a soloist in various concert projects. She has worked as a musical director for plays at various theaters. Since 2014 she has lived in Berlin as a gayageum player and as a member of the Asian Art Ensemble.

Marco Brosolo (synthesizer) studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice. He has been working as a visual artist and self-taught musician since the late 1990s. He explores the relationship between images and sounds, synaesthesia and omnipresence. He created a musical sensor instrument called AST, which was premiered at the Transmediale Festival in Berlin. In 2009, Marco Brosolo founded Moving Silence: an international platform for contemporary silent film cinema with live music. In 2019, Brosolo teamed up with German actor Godehard Giese and founded the music project Paranoia Godard.
