One of the most pleasant surprises to come out of the USA in recent years was the reformation of legendary Boston band Moving Targets. Mastermind Kenny Chambers found a remarkably talented rhythm section in 2018 with bassist Yves Thibault and drummer Emiliene Catalano. After just three shows in the USA, they toured Europe at the end of 2018. 2019 saw the release of "Wires", the band's first album since "Takin' A Ride", their last release in 1993.
2020 - at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic - saw the release of "Humbucker", another album that fans and critics see as a milestone in the TARGETS discography alongside their brilliant debut "Burning in Water" (1986). Consequently, as proof that the MOVING TARGETS write truly timeless songs, with challenging, accentuating guitar playing, hard drums and bass that magically merge with the guitar sounds.
Recommended tracks: The driving "The Hole" or "Apart" or "Opposites" with a slightly slower tempo, which in turn highlights Chambers' unique guitar playing. The beautiful "Lost", partly with acoustic guitar, is a radio-ready hit.
With "Harder Than The Rest", the Wipers send their regards in uptempo. "World Gone Mad" and "Believer" showcase the classic Moving Targets sound, which has always been characterized by melodic gems - rooted between mod rock of the sixties and classic power pop punk, from which the classic US hardcore punk sound originated.
In January 2023, the band surprised everyone with the album "In The Dust", recorded and produced by studio icon J. Robbins (Jawbreaker). They also released a live album, "Live at Kling Klang", which is only available digitally.
What makes MOVING TARGETS, founded in Boston/USA in the early 80s at the height of the hardcore punk scene, so special even today is above all the way Ken Chambers plays his guitar, which has since influenced countless bands in the great genre of alternative guitar rock. Open guitar chords, melodic riffs and sometimes melancholy, concise lyrics - driven by energetic drums and bass - all in a warm sound atmosphere, timeless and still as inspiring today as it was in 1986, when the debut album "Burning in Water" was released on Taang Records, which is still celebrated today.
Confessed Targets fans include musicians such as Dave Smalley, Foo Fighters, Descendents, Buffalo Tom, Lemonheads and many other bands from the alternative guitar rock scene.
Fans of bands like Hüsker Dü, Mission of Burma, Buffalo Tom, The Replacements, The Lemonheads or Bullet Lavolta usually love MOVING TARGETS as well. Incidentally, Kenny Chambers also worked with the legendary Bullet Lavolta for several years, whose anthem "Dead Wrong" is often found in the encore section of TARGETS shows. The same goes for the Wipers classic "Youth Of Amercia".
All in all: music with a consistently unique quality and thoroughly emotionally moving moments.
