Žarko Jovašević originally comes from the heart of Serbia and grew up with the local music traditions. When he later moved to Berlin, he began to write compositions that carry the sound of the Balkans and are imaginative, cosmopolitan, fresh and frivolous. He performs them live with brilliant musicians who have come to multicultural Berlin from Bulgaria, Romania, Sweden, Russia, Turkey and the USA. The crisp songs have the catchy potential of a pop song, are rhythmically oriented towards fat Balkan beats and have a meaning ranging from lyrical to burlesque, mostly sung in English. Žarko and his musicians transform traditional Balkan dances such as Kolos and Čočeks with quirky guitar riffs, rap vocals, funk and rough beats into a powerful mix full of energetic rhythms. They have thrilled audiences in numerous clubs and at festivals such as the Rudolstadt Festival, Fusion, Karneval der Kulturen Berlin, as well as on international stages such as the Lowlands Festival (Netherlands), Copacobana (Belgium), Spirit of Tengri (Kazakhstan), Nilüfer Festival (Turkey) and the Sziget Festival in Budapest. Mr Žarko unleash a powerful sound of aphrodisiac Balkan crossover in fortissimo!
