Multiphonic saxophone quartet. From J.S. Bach to Philip Glass

In the Maxhaus, the soul of a baroque monastery meets the clarity of modern architecture. The multi-award-winning Multiphonic Saxophone Quartet picks up on precisely this arc of tension: The carefully curated program combines the sacred depth and complex structure of old masters such as J.S. Bach with the pulsating power of contemporary sounds. In finely balanced arrangements, baroque polyphony becomes transparent and lively thanks to the warm, merging sound of the four saxophones. As a counterpoint, minimal music is heard - works that, like the architecture of the Maxhaus, are characterized by reduction, clear lines and an almost meditative intensity. With precision, joy of playing and a sound that sometimes fills the room as an intimate whisper, sometimes as a rhythmic explosion, the musicians invite you to immerse yourself in new worlds of sound. An evening that transcends genre boundaries, is deeply moving and, above all, great fun!

The Düsseldorf ensemble has played its way to the forefront of chamber music with numerous prizes at national and international competitions. Its acclaimed interpretations of minimal music in particular have a magnetic effect that reaches far beyond the concert hall. Even Hollywood became aware of the quartet through its successful YouTube channel: in 2025, it contributed the music to a key scene in the film Kiss My Grass with Michael Nyman's Songs for Tony.
