Abgesagt | München & der Nationalsozialismus - Stadtführung mit Alex

In the organizer's words:

JOIN ME ON THIS MOVING TOUR (meeting point Mariensäule)

Munich, the cheerful metropolis on the Isar, has a dark past. It takes us back to the time of National Socialism. Munich played a decisive role in the emergence and rise of the Nazi movement. It was here that an unknown and penniless Austrian corporal became the dreaded dictator of the Third Reich. Hitler later thanked Munich with the dubious honorary title of "Capital of the Movement". The result was a veritable building boom. Numerous propaganda buildings were erected, most of which survived the war unscathed. As silent witnesses of the time, they still characterize Munich's cityscape today. But how did it come to pass that Europe's flourishing art and culture metropolis became the nucleus of National Socialism? This is precisely the question I would like to explore on this tour. Together we will look at the most important buildings and places that were built by the National Socialists or misused as places of worship. Where Hitler gave his first speech, the Nazis celebrated their parades or Munich had to endure the bombing war.

MEETING POINT AT THE MARIAN COLUMN!

THE TOUR

We start our tour at Marienplatz, the historic center of Munich. From there, we will walk to various places that played a key role in the history of National Socialism. First, we will focus on the history of the founding of the Nazi party NSDAP and the personal rise of Adolf Hitler. Via various stations, we finally arrive in today's Maxvorstadt. In what is today such a modern and lively district, there was once the huge NSDAP party quarter, which at times comprised 68 buildings with over 6,000 employees. It is a strange coincidence of history that in war-ravaged Munich, of all places, the largest Nazi buildings remained almost intact. Our further route finally leads us to Königsplatz, the end point of our tour. In the Third Reich, Hitler's feared party center was located on the neoclassical town square with its beautiful historic ensemble of buildings. The square itself was the scene of countless propaganda events and productions of the brown Nazi cult. A moving, highly interesting search for traces. There is a lot to discover.

Meeting point: Mariensäule on Marienplatz - I'm the one with the iPad :)

WHAT I STAND FOR

As a native of Munich, I have been involved with this topic since my youth. My main motivation was to understand. I wanted to try to understand how the emergence of National Socialism in Germany was possible. And how an inhuman dictatorship could reduce Europe to rubble in just a few years. I would like to share this knowledge on my tour, because the reasons for the rise of Hitler and the National Socialists are manifold and have their origins in Munich of all places.

But one point is particularly important to me: even though we are dealing with a serious topic on this tour, that doesn't mean we can't laugh. In my opinion, a city tour should above all be fun. What's more, you don't have to be a history expert to take this tour. On the contrary, anyone can take part, young or old. And for a better understanding, the tour follows the historical events chronologically.
