MURASAKI WAVES - japanischer Citypop
In the organizer's words:
Founded in 2022, the MURASAKI WAVES project from Düsseldorf and Meerbusch brings Japanese funk/jazz/pop sounds from the ’70s and ’80s to European stages!
The City Pop genre is a unique experience, born out of the global export phenomenon of American funk during the era of the Japanese economic miracle. The genre is characterized by a willingness to experiment with synthesizers and harmony, as well as a desire to infuse pop music with the cosmopolitan flair of Tokyo’s growing skyline. The theme of love in the big city and summers gone by serves as a common thread; musically underpinned by an often maximalist approach, MURASAKI WAVES—with its eight-piece band lineup featuring a horn section—strives to do justice to this sound with exceptional authenticity.
The band members—some of Japanese descent, others simply driven by a deep love for the genre—are musicians with extensive stage experience and a lot of energy in their playing, who pour a great deal of time and passion into the project alongside their studies and training. Their live debut at Kaarst Total 2023 was a resounding success, showcasing the incredible energy the band brings to the audience. Get ready for a pastel-colored journey through time—guaranteed to get you dancing and filled with nostalgia that will stay with you long after the evening is over!
