The anarchistic potential of improvisation can be studied in no one as wonderfully as in Helge Schneider: whether as a comedian, author, actor, director, composer or multi-instrumentalist - he always remains unpredictable. He plays with communication in order to document its failure. He exaggerates meaning until higher nonsense emerges. He juggles with a thousand ideas until they crash to the ground. The sociologist Dirk Baecker says: "He gets to the heart of the seriousness of the silly like no other." All this comes from jazz. What he learned in jazz - agility, improvisation and storytelling - he transfers to all areas of his art. But how did it all begin?
How did he become a "singing man-cake", a "Doc Snyder", a musical genius? "Music Was My First Love" should tell you a lot about that. But what and how - that is unpredictable. "Set him up with a piano and wait and see what happens...", says his manager. You bet we'll wait and see!
