Violinissimo enters its third round! Once again, we can look forward to a spectacular and surprising world of sound that highlights the brilliance and expressiveness of the violin—from the Baroque era to the present day, from fascinating solo repertoire to sophisticated arrangements. Whether in Francesco Geminiani’s virtuoso solo or Johann Josef Fux’s artful voice leading, whether tongue-in-cheek as in Dancla’s charming play on the motif from “Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann” or evocative as in Saint-Saëns’ dazzling Dance of the Skeletons, whether in Vivaldi’s fast-paced, sparkling Summer Thunderstorm or during the evening’s monumental climax, Bach’s famous Chaconne: The masterpieces of this evening reveal a new dimension full of contrasts, joy of playing, and unexpected timbres—all in the spirit of the violin.
