Musketeer & sænder

Festival of hands and music 2024

Musketeer is no stranger to a busy street corner or a big stage. He has spent the better part of the last decade honing his storytelling and songwriting skills in some of Europe's most beautiful cities. Through wind and weather, this hardened Australian folk troubadour has endured it all with unwavering fervor, making his way onto the stage, often in a kind of biblical rapture.
In 2022, Musketeer undertook his most ambitious journey yet. A road trip from Oslo to Istanbul. The troubadour traveled across Europe with 7 other artists, playing concerts, festivals and street music in 15 different countries. The journey was filmed and will be released as a 90-minute documentary along with an album of music recorded along the way.
In 2023, Musketeer began to release his most ambitious studio album to date, a debut LP entitled 'Glorious Light'. Joined again by his band from his home base of Hamburg, Germany, Musketeer co-produced the album with Australian singer-songwriter Lucas Laufen at Famous Gold Watch Studios in Berlin. The album explores themes of war and hope, examines Christianity, touches on Roman and Germanic mythology and steals lines from Dante, Dylan and Hemingway.

'Glorious Light' follows Musketeer's previous two studio EPs, 'The North Sea' (2021) and 'Seven Long Years' (2017).

Artist Ute Krafft transforms the hands of important musicians into lifelike sculptures through the project 'Of Hands and Music', preserving them for future generations - as a small slice of space and time. It is a non-profit art project, the sculptures are created for exhibitions and remain a permanent part of a museum's collection. There are already more than 300 musicians, including many well-known bands, who have been inspired by the project.

From August 2 to 18, 2024, exciting concerts will take place from Friday to Sunday, inviting you to experience Ute Krafft's artworks before and after in her exhibition in Bunker K101. You can find the whole program here.

Today the two artists Musketeer & sænder are playing.

sænder is IndieLoFiShoegazePop with German lyrics, is the sound of some big city, charming, weird, sexy, smart, very cool, lofi-clacker-crunchy, post-wave, schrammel-punky & lots and lots of ShoegazePOP. local indie types like Aydo ABAY say: "Music for and by people who live music". Or colleague Robert Drakogiannakis (Angelika Express): "This is the very beautiful and pure definition of indie rock".
niels frevert: " sænder? that's that english guy you don't know whether he's coming to the soundcheck or whether he'll show up 5 minutes before showtime - and then throw his big city anthems into the audience like a frisbee through the cologne folk garden.""Sænder is a shoegazer by nature and likes noisy, washed-out British-style guitar riffs: Ride, My Bloody Valentine, New Order. However, Sænder is not an introverted Englishman, but a Cologne boy who wears his heart on his sleeve. And so, over the massive wall of sound of guitars and drum machines, he spits euphoric, melancholy lines about life as a slacker king in a brash voice and in German." - (Oliver Minck)

Sænder, the savior and keeper of the "indie" principle and Cologne's only one-man power pop band, makes a brilliant comeback with "Ahoy Rock'n'Roll". (Eric Pfeil, die Realität, Rolling Stone, Musik Express)
Good that such incorrigible types still exist. (Kölner Stadt Revué)
