The eccentric linguistics professor Henry Higgins is convinced of the power of proper speech. When he meets the flower girl Eliza Doolittle, he gets swept up in a bet. For while Eliza is quick-witted, she speaks the rough dialect of the London working class. Higgins wants to teach her perfect English and use her to infiltrate the diplomats’ ball. “My Fair Lady” became an overnight hit on Broadway and, even 70 years later, remains one of the most popular musicals of all time.
