Naïssam Jalal

Naïssam Jalal was born in Paris to Syrian parents. This is not unimportant, as the musical threads of the flautist, singer, composer and Nay player are woven between the Arab ancestral world and the French world. The "end-edged flute" is at home in Arabic and Persian music, among others, and after Jalal graduated from the conservatory in Paris, she went to Damascus to study the Nay, then to Cairo to work with some of the great masters of Arabic music. Now she belongs in this league herself. She doesn't care about genre classifications. She works with rappers and jazz musicians, and in her ensembles she can bring together the various musical threads - her fantastic quartet in particular offers the opportunity for free improvisation and openness. This music sounds trance-like and spiritual. It is no coincidence that her latest album is entitled "Healing Rituals".
