🎼 Clara Schumann & Therese Mathilde Leupold - a special friendship

Therese Mathilde Leupold (1823-1885) was one of Clara Schumann's many pupils - but their connection went far beyond the artistic. The two musicians shared a close friendship, which is now revealed in a new light in the treasure chamber of the Schumann House.

On display are previously unknown letters, an artistically designed friendship album by Leupold and a newly discovered portrait photograph of Clara Schumann. The presentation is complemented by a sound installation: pianist Tobias Koch and mezzo-soprano Kim Hannah Holtappels have integrated compositions by Therese Mathilde Leupold into the permanent exhibition and thus musically trace the Düsseldorf life of Clara Schumann and her friend.

The latest, eighth episode of the "Romanticism and Revolution" podcast is also dedicated to Therese Mathilde Leupold and her significance.

In a guided tour, Dr. Sabine Brenner-Wilczek, Director of the Heine Institute and the Schumann House, presents the new exhibits and sheds light on the special relationship between the two musicians.
