Reading with Edson Incopté (Guinea-Bissau)

The anthology Der Pitangabaum der Nachbarin (2025 Berlin, Noack & Block) provides impressive insights into the country of Guinea-Bissau and its literature. Five authors - Waldír Araújo, Amadú Dafé, Edson Incopté, Claudiany Pereira and Marinho de Pina - exemplify the literary diversity of this multi-ethnic West African country. Their stories revolve around family histories and new beginnings, dreams and disappointed life plans, tradition and uprootedness, injustice and struggles for freedom.

Edson Incopté (born 1987 in Bissau) is secretary of the PEN Center Guiné-Bissau and the Bissau-Guinean Writers' Association (AEGUI). He also coordinates the Academia Ubuntu Guinea-Bissau. He has already received several awards for his literary work. He will be accompanied at the reading by the translators Renate Heß (Berlin) and Rosa Rodrigues (Heidelberg).
