After the great success in 2023 and 2025, the exhibition "New Design from Düsseldorf" of the Design Department of the Peter Behrens School of Arts at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences is now taking place for the third time. On display are over 50 nominated projects by graduates from the New Craft Object Design, Communication Design, Retail Design and Exhibition Design courses.
New Design from Düsseldorf is a regular platform for young designers, in which outstanding graduation projects from an academic year are shown, reflecting the status quo of design education in Düsseldorf. The projects selected from 300 final theses show concepts, ideas and solutions to current social discourses in an innovative way and using excellent craftsmanship. They are far more than a compulsory academic task, but exemplify the independent attitudes and positions of young designers. The role of design in a constantly changing society and the use of artistic and creative methods are constantly questioned, redefined and interpreted in order to find answers to social questions, initiate discourse or create new spaces for thought. They are "New Design from Düsseldorf".
In addition to the intensive examination of the exhibits and their individual requirements for presentation in the space, the work on the exhibition and its architecture also provides an exciting field of experimentation for 30 students from the Department of Design. With a view to ecology and the efficient use of resources, the students researched the use of recycled leather fibers from the automotive industry in combination with natural adhesives made from milk protein (casein) and lime for the construction of exhibition furniture. The formal-aesthetic investigation of fluidity in combination with sustainable materials creates a new kind of image in the exhibition space and also forms the basis of the graphic design in abstract form: "New Design - New Materials".
