Three years after their wedding, Polly and Ray Cutler finally find time to catch up on their honeymoon at Niagara Falls. At the motel, they meet Rose Loomis (Marilyn Monroe) and soon find out that she is cheating on her husband, who hardly ever leaves the motel room and about whom she is outwardly concerned due to his war trauma. While the Cutlers initially observe the dysfunctional marriage with amusement, over time they become more and more involved in the relationship drama. This becomes increasingly mysterious and is ultimately not as harmless as it seems at the beginning.
NIAGARA is a melodramatic thriller with elements of film noir. For the first time in her career, Marilyn Monroe plays a seductive femme fatale, which stands in stark contrast to the stereotype of the naive blonde she had often portrayed up to that point and helped her rise to international stardom in 1953.
