A chamber music trio line-up with the idea of establishing the double bass as an equal, melodic voice alongside the two wind players. Three voices that should blend well and make full use of their own tonal possibilities. With this approach, Cologne bassist Nico Klöffer creates space for a delicate band sound in which the nuances of the interplay are clearly audible and the presence of each individual instrument is equally important for the development of the music.

The pieces composed by the band leader vary between small-scale motifs interrupted by silence, chordal surfaces, pointed rhythms and flowing agogics. The trio presents the compositional ideas in a powerful calm, dense, substantial and at the same time light and straightforward. In places like fragments of
soundtracks to small film scenes, they develop or end with a cut. The improvisational impulses of Julius van Rhee, Carlotta Armbruster and Nico Klöffer create lively outbursts in contrast to accurate, fully composed passages and find their place as oases for playful letting go.
