Night Shifts 3 mit Jemima Rose Dean, Simone Karl, Jil Lahr und Janis von Rohden

In the organizer's words:

Night Shifts 3
St. Pauli, Hamburg
Meeting point: Sexy Angel, Hans-Albers-Platz
(18+)

As soon as daylight fades, the neon signs start to glow in St. Pauli. For the third edition of Night Shifts, we invite you to explore the night as a shimmering, condensing moment of interpersonal encounters, possibilities and ambivalences. Between subcultures, sex work, tourism, bars, clubs, culture and trash, different desires meet here, leading to connections as well as frictions.

The artistic interventions by Jemima Rose Dean, Simone Karl, Jil Lahr and Janis von Rohden unfold between the establishments of the Reeperbahn at three different locations. They explore the contrasts of the neighborhood and develop narratives about pleasure, power dynamics, sensuality and intoxication.

At 9:30 pm we meet at Hans-Albers-Platz, next to the entrance of the Sexy Angel. The three night watchwomen will open the evening here and show the way to the three locations, which visitors can explore at their own pace.

Night Shifts
Hamburg, Feb-Dec 2026

A project by Rosanna Graf, Lisa Klosterkötter and Gesa Troch

Night Shifts is an annual artistic program in Hamburg's public space that is dedicated to the theme of darkness in eight chapters in 2026. Exhibitions, performances, sound installations and readings will take place between dusk and dawn, illuminating the tension between light and shadow, visibility and concealment. Over the course of the year, various locations in the city, including at the port and in districts such as Harburg, City Nord and St. Pauli, will be used by different artists. The interventions examine the city's nocturnal darkness as an ambivalent state: while the night can cause uncertainty and restrict our movements, it also opens up protective and playful spaces for self-expression, visions and excess. The artistic contributions approach the social, scientific and pop-cultural facets of darkness from different perspectives. Three night watchwomen accompany each event and guide you through the night.

The Night Shifts program is kindly supported by the Elbkulturfonds of the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media, the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung and the Claussen-Simon-Stiftung.
