George Evelyn aka DJ E.A.S.E. aka Nightmares On Wax is a pioneer of contemporary electronica as a producer, musician and DJ. His tracks are influenced by dub, jungle, funk, soul, house and jazz, topped with the sample and cut 'n' paste aesthetic of hip-hop.

All these influences always remain recognizable and combine again and again to create their very own and original soundscapes, which not infrequently have what it takes to become classics. Thus, the 1991 debut album A Word Of Science (The 1st & Final Chapter), which established the sound of N.O.W. with its combination of loops and sample-driven, synchronized funk, soul and hip-hop, as well as the follow-up albums Smoker's Delight (1995) and Carboot Soul (1999) are considered groundbreaking for the entire spectrum of downbeat.

To this day, the longest-serving Warp artist continues to produce and release albums, EPs and remixes without major breaks. Each album stands on its own, reflecting numerous genres and always incorporating new influences.

What makes N.O.W. so great: the album released in 2020 "Shout out! To Freedom...", for example, is a reflection on freedom that is not only lyrically political; the many facets of black music, whose long history always resonates in the tracks, are a clear statement. The same goes for his DJ sets, which shape funk, hip-hop, house, jazz and Afrobeats into a danceable experience and incidentally reflect the history of these styles. Great. And did we say danceable? Danceable! Definitely.
