With his new album “Zuversicht,” Nils Wülker—one of Europe’s most successful jazz trumpeters—presents not only his 15th album but also a powerful statement of his artistic vision. For the first time, a work by the ECHO Award winner bears a German title—and it’s programmatic: “Zuversicht” here refers to a hope actively lived out, one that faces even the most adverse circumstances with confidence in the future. This inspiring energy shapes the entire album—and now the accompanying tour as well.
Together with a top-tier international lineup—Linda May Han Oh (double bass), Greg Hutchinson (drums), and Aaron Parks (piano)—the album was recorded in just three and a half days at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin. The eleven original compositions blend the essence of modern jazz with the organic interplay of a perfectly harmonizing quartet. Whether it’s the tension-filled opener “All Hands On Deck,” the moving “Time Will Tell,” or the funk-driven “Forces At Work”—each piece bears Wülker’s unmistakable sound and becomes an immediate, vivid experience in concert. Overall, “Zuversicht” is a deliberately interactive project. “I wanted to step out of my comfort zone—and take a risk,” says Wülker. “The result is surprising, energetic, and hopeful.” Live, the quartet (tour lineup featuring Omer Klein on piano) promises to embody this very mindset and create concert experiences full of spontaneity, dynamism, and emotional depth—a tribute to music’s power to open up new perspectives.
