Noise and Displacement
In the organizer's words:
The Stuttgart-based electric trio Pony Says, with its lineup of electric guitar, electric piano, and electric drum set, is closer in style to a traditional band than to a contemporary music ensemble. In their concert as part of the FOKUS. series, they explore sound as the dominant medium of a space. NUT | LAC-5 by Maximilian Marcoll derives its intensity from a radical restriction of the material. Very slowly flowing streams of sound are interrupted by drilling pulses that, in turn, change slowly. A continuous drone eventually merges with its surroundings, while sustained beats lead to social synchronization. In stark contrast to this is “negative space A” by Yiran Zhao. Derived from a classical Chinese artistic technique, the piece employs both active and passive-sounding elements. It shifts rapidly between dynamic and quiet moments, thereby achieving a nuanced sonic language. Damian Ibn Salem presents a piece that explores sonic weapons, contributing to the FOKUS.Reihe Resilienz series with a work that delves into the dark depths of the use of sound waves.
