Nour Sokhon 'Beirut Birds (طيور بيروت)'

In the organizer's words:

The multimedia artist and composer Nour Sokhon (* 1993, Byblos) presents the live performance Beirut Birds (طيور بيروت), which is based on her ongoing research on migration, displacement and the recurring instability in Lebanon. Sokhon works with interviews, sound recordings and site-specific research and translates this material into sound compositions.

The album Beirut Birds (طيور بيروت), released in 2025 on aural conduct, consists of various voices taken from recorded conversations with people from the diaspora and returnees. These fragments are repeated and interwoven with Sokhon's voice, manipulations of sounds and field recordings from Lebanon and Germany. Also embedded in the composition are sounds of objects associated with migration - such as table bells from offices, suitcase rolls, car parts and bureaucratic paperwork. These elements flow into Sokhon's improvisations on the piano, which are accompanied by electronics, synthesizers, violin and various percussion instruments.

The live performance is accompanied by visual material from Beirut and the bird migration routes across the Mediterranean.

This album was released with the support of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture - AFAC, with residency and financial support from LABgamerz in partnership with GMEM.

This concert takes place as a double bill with a concert by Wafaa Saied. We recommend purchasing a combined ticket for both concerts.
