OFF EUROPA: OLD POND - ZSUZSA RÓZSAVÖLGYI + COMPANY (BUDAPEST)

In the organizer's words:

A wonderfully fluid dance performance about habitats, (co-)existence and survival. The dancers become creatures of various kinds in an imaginary body of water.

"Trumpet anemones are small organisms that live in colonies. They are phosphorescent and move up and down with the water thanks to their air sacs. They are dependent on each other as well as on external circumstances, and if they have a consciousness, it is a collective one." it says in the materials for the performance.
The wonderfully fluidly danced performance OLD POND by Hungarian choreographer Zsuzsa Rózsavölgyi is about living spaces, (co-)existence and survival. In a spinning top of eternal life, dancers become creatures of all kinds. They swim, row, jump; occasionally agitated, but always movingly harmonious in an imaginary body of water flooded with light. A kind of utopian social design, certainly not created in Hungary of all places for no reason - in the protected space of an island of art.
In addition to physiology and a degree in kinesiology (movement theory), Zsuzsa Rózsavölgyi studied dance and dance education at the Academy of Contemporary Dance in Budapest. Her often multimedia works with visual artists, musicians and scientists have been nominated several times for the prestigious Laban Prize in Hungary. In 2018, Zsuzsa Rózsavölgyi was a guest at OFF EUROPA: OPEN HUNGARY and presented her solo 1.7. She is currently an associate professor of contemporary dance at the Oslo Academy of Fine Arts.
