On our public tour, our art educators will guide you through "Outdoors: Tina Blau—An Impressionist from Vienna."
Tina Blau was not only a leading figure in European modernism and a pioneer of Austrian plein air painting; she also paved the way for women in the art world of the 19th century.
Although she was highly successful during her lifetime and featured in international exhibitions, she is virtually unknown outside her home country today. In cooperation with the Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern, we are presenting the first museum exhibition of the painter’s work in Germany.
Works from Vienna’s major museums as well as from private collections offer the opportunity to discover a magnificent painter who charted an extraordinary path.
In dialogue with the airy, light-filled paintings of Tina Blau, Rosa M. Hessling presents non-representational, vibrantly colored works that offer intense visual experiences. Her engagement with nature connects her across the centuries with her colleague from Vienna. For Rosa M Hessling, light—with its unique qualities—takes center stage.
