A Harry Rowohlt evening
presented by the Harbour Front Literature Festival Hamburg
Reading and discussion
He will become what he is" was written on his school leaving certificate. And it was true! Harry Rowohlt became everything he always was and wanted to be: a hilarious linguistic artist and a virtuoso master of digression, a translator of the untranslatable and a reader with a thousand voices, and to top it all off, "Penner Harry" in Lindenstraße. But his life turned out very differently than planned because he didn't want to become what he was meant to be: Successor to his publisher father.
Journalist Alexander Solloch has written an impressive biography. It is not only brilliantly researched and reveals many a surprise, but also has a "very unique, Harry-Rowohlt sound" (Deutschlandfunk Kultur). On the Harbour Front stage, he talks about the life and work of the Hamburg jack-of-all-trades, while actor Olli Dittrich reads from the master's texts. It's going to be a huge party!
