One night in his almost empty tower block in modern London, Adam (Andrew Scott) has a chance encounter with his mysterious neighbor Harry (Paul Mescal) that disrupts his everyday rhythm. They quickly become close and the otherwise introverted Adam quickly confides in the empathetic Harry. He tells him about his childhood and his plans for a book he wants to write about his life. To do so, he embarks on a difficult journey into the past. He travels to his childhood home, where everything seems to be just as he left it. Even his long-dead parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) don't seem to have aged a day. The question arises as to whether Adam's loneliness and grief affect his sense of reality when he suddenly comes face to face with his deceased parents.
