THE HERO OF FRIEDRICHSTRASSE STATION tells the story of Micha Hartung (Charly Hübner), a Berlin video store owner on the brink of bankruptcy who unwittingly becomes a hero throughout Germany: When, on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a journalist portrays him as the mastermind behind the largest mass escape from the GDR, his life is suddenly turned upside down. As an unwilling con artist, Micha becomes entangled in a web of half-truths and outright lies. And just as the fragile house of cards that is his story threatens to collapse around him and his life descends into utter chaos, he meets Paula (Christiane Paul). Micha never would have thought it possible that a successful, smart, and witty woman like her could be interested in a man like him. But the budding love story is overshadowed by the lie.

A heartwarming comedy about history as myth, the pitfalls of German memory culture, and life as a game of remembering, forgetting, and inventing. An entertaining lesson on the hierarchy of historiography and a film about the power of storytelling.
