Open Air Kino: In die Sonne schauen (Sound of Falling)
In the organizer's words:
Starring Hanna Heckt, Lea Drinda, Lena Urzendowsky, Laeni Geiseler, Susanne Wuest, and Luise Heyer. A film by Mascha Schilinski. Jury Prize, Cannes Film Festival 2025. Showing today at the Neue Zukunft open-air cinema. With English subtitles.
A secluded four-sided farmstead in the Altmark region. For over a century, its walls have breathed in the lives of the people who live here—their tastes, their existence through the ages. The film tells the story of four women from different eras—Alma (1910s), Erika (1940s), Angelika (1980s), and Nelly (2020s)—whose lives are eerily intertwined. Each of them spends her childhood or youth on this farm, but as they navigate their own present, traces of the past are revealed to them—unspoken fears, repressed traumas, buried secrets.
Mascha Schilinski has created a grand, epoch-defining film—a grand tour through the subtlest nuances of these four women’s emotional worlds. *IN DIE SONNE SCHAUEN* also turns its gaze toward our present and our rapidly shifting experience of history and the changing of the times. A film that burrows deep into our perception and stages the sensation precisely where feeling is most fleeting: in the rapidly fading sense of time.
A remote German farm harbors generations of secrets. Four women, separated by decades but united by trauma, uncover the truth behind its weathered walls.
