In the organizer's words:
Artistic Intelligences
In the multimedia art of French pioneer ORLAN, 'intelligence' is always created through dialog with the 'other' - other people, cultures, technologies. In her politically engaged practice since the 1960s, she has used hybrid self-portraits to reveal nomadic, mutating, changing identities in which body image and pictorial body merge. ORLAN's exhibition at the Muffatwerk shows new works from the field of robotics, including the highlight of her ORLANOÏDE - a moving sculpture modeled on her likeness that speaks with its own voice and answers questions from the audience in several languages. Other works include artificial intelligence and augmented reality, critical explorations of plastic surgery and biotechnology as well as a cross-section of her oeuvre with performances, photography, video, 3D animation, collages and music compositions that encourage us to return to more physical contact and slow dancing after the Covid pandemic.
