Orlando - eine Biografie

From becoming a man to becoming a woman - Orlando, a young English lord, becomes the lover of Queen Elizabeth I, goes to the Sultan's court in Constantinople as an envoy and transforms into a woman overnight. Over 400 years, from the 16th century to the end of the 20th century, Orlando wanders through time. The awkward poet eventually becomes a successful, single, car-driving writer. Virginia Woolf, herself wandering between worlds, dedicated this "biography" to her lover Victoria Sackville-West in 1928. In it, Woolf wittily dismantles the seemingly immovable: class, status, gender and power. For Woolf, the fluid change between the sexes does not harbor a crisis of identity, but rather the greatest possible freedom.
