Painting Movies: Tove

Painting Movies takes place at the Filmpalette Köln (Lübecker Straße 15, 50668 Cologne).

The inventor of the little Moomins, the lovable and headstrong trolls from the far north, Tove Jansson is the protagonist of this cinematic biography by Finnish director Zaida Bergroth (2020).
In addition to her work as an illustrator, Tove Jansson (1914-2001) also created paintings, developed plays, wrote novels and stories and lived an intense life in the bohemian Helsinki of the mid-20th century.
In the 1930s, she was also politically active and used caricatures to deal with National Socialism, Stalinism and later also with the effects of the Second World War. "Tove" is a captivating biopic about the search for identity, love and freedom and was a great success with audiences in Finnish cinemas.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Claudia Müller - editor of Tove Jansson - as a guest at the Film Palette this evening and to be able to talk to her after the screening.

The film series Painting Movies, a cooperation between jungekunstfreunde, job&kunstfreunde and the film art cinema Filmpalette, deals with the tension between art/painting/photography in film. We invite an expert to each film, who will give us a brief introduction before the screening and then be available for a discussion about what has been seen.
