Palestine 1936: more and more villages are rising up against the British colonial power, which is asserting its influence by force. At the same time, European Jews who have fled National Socialism settle in the region. The impartial Yusuf commutes between his rural home village and the increasingly tense Jerusalem. After a momentous event, the young man takes the side of the resistance. He joins allies such as the dock worker Khalid, who sees no other way out than to take up arms in the face of the escalating situation. As personal destinies and political upheavals inexorably intertwine, the situation comes to a dramatic head - a decisive moment that marks the origin of the conflict in the entire region.

The latest work by Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir(The Salt of the Sea, Wajib) and official Oscar entry for Palestine, celebrated its acclaimed world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it was honored with a 20-minute standing ovation. With her new directorial work, Jacir has created a passionate, visually stunning historical epic about the Arab uprising of 1936, which creates a cinematic monument to this defining moment in her country's history.

In 1936, as Palestinian villages revolt against British colonial rule, Yusuf navigates between Jerusalem and his rural home, amidst escalating unrest and a pivotal moment for the British Empire.
