Partho Sarathy is a master of the sarod and brings the depth and beauty of North Indian classical music to the stage with a rare intensity. Trained by his father Ustad Dhyanesh Khan and the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar, his music combines tranquillity, depth and expressiveness. Celebrated worldwide, he is one of India's most important musicians today.

His playing on the sarod is like a symphony in silence - deep, meditative and powerful at the same time. In his raga interpretations, he explores musical landscapes that are full of harmony and clarity. His virtuosity is never an end in itself, but an expression of a serious, spiritual examination of the musical tradition.

Partho was born in Calcutta in 1960 into a family of Khyal musicians. At the age of just 16, he won the national competition for instrumental music organized by All India Radio - a milestone that paved his way to Pandit Ravi Shankar. He has been his student and musical companion since the age of 18. Together they have toured India, Europe and the USA.
