"Penthesilea" is the opus summum of the most important German-language playwright of the 19th century.
In contrast to Goethe's humanistic ideals, Heinrich von Kleist's material delves deep into the darkrooms of the human soul, bringing together burning issues of today about a new "war of the sexes", gender-fluid border crossings and the "Amazon" as an iconographic, contemporary role profile. Love as a new theater of war, the new skeptical fear of commitment and emotions, expressed as an artistic work of art of the greatest linguistic power - all these are the ingredients of Kleist's rarely performed magnum opus.
Theater Plan B presents this mysterious classic of German literary history in a very special, independent version for two players. The stage becomes the battleground and showroom for a confrontation between the greatest icons of antiquity: the chaste Amazon queen Penthesilea and Achilles, the most important Greek hero.
A power struggle begins, a thriller of sentences, thoughts and a cold glow that is unparalleled in German-language literature.
