Persepolis - Director: Vincent Paronnaud & Marjane Satrapi
Eight-year-old Marjane grows up sheltered in Tehran during the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. When the Shah goes into exile and the Islamic Republic is proclaimed, she and her family feel a sense of optimism, especially when her uncle Anouche, a communist, is released from prison. Marjane enthusiastically re-enacts the political events with her friends on the street, seeing herself as a prophetess who is in contact with God.
