Constructed from a personal archive of footage shot by director Kamal Aljafari in 2001 during the Second Intifada, With Hasan in Gaza follows Aljafari's journey as he searches for a man he was once imprisoned with. Accompanied by Hasan, the grainy, intimate lens of a MiniDV camera captures the everyday rhythms, conversations, and spirit of Gazan life amidst a backdrop of conflict, creating a rare cinematic snapshot of a specific time and place. 

More than a simple travelogue, the film transforms into a profound meditation on memory, loss, and preservation. By rediscovering and assembling the footage decades later, Aljafari engages in an act of cinematic resistance and creates an homage to a Gaza that has since undergone profound erasure. A powerful testament to the people and spaces that endure in memory, using the medium of film to restore their presence and assert their continued existence. (Bethan Hughes)

With Hasan in Gaza basiert auf einem persönlichen Archiv von Aufnahmen, die Regisseur Kamal Aljafari 2001 während der Zweiten Intifada gedreht hat. Der Film begleitet Aljafari auf seiner Suche nach einem Mann, mit dem er einst gemeinsam inhaftiert war. Begleitet von Hasan fängt die körnige, intime Linse einer MiniDV-Kamera den Alltag, die Gespräche und die Stimmung in Gaza vor dem Hintergrund des Konflikts ein und schafft so eine seltene filmische Momentaufnahme einer bestimmten Zeit und eines bestimmten Ortes. 

Der Film ist mehr als nur ein einfacher Reisebericht. Er verwandelt sich in eine tiefgründige Betrachtung von Erinnerung, Verlust und Bewahrung. Indem er das Filmmaterial Jahrzehnte später wiederentdeckt und zusammensetzt, leistet Aljafari einen Akt des filmischen Widerstands und schafft eine Hommage an einen Gazastreifen, der inzwischen weitgehend ausgelöscht wurde. Ein eindrucksvolles Zeugnis für die Menschen und Orte, die in Erinnerung bleiben, indem das Medium Film genutzt wird, um ihre Präsenz wiederherzustellen und ihre fortdauernde Existenz zu bekräftigen.
