How is it that a people vote themselves out of their civil liberties? Why do they agree to constitutional amendments that give an individual unlimited power and come to terms with unjust conditions so quickly? In 1547, the then 17-year-old Etienne de la Boétie published a work in which he - 250 years before Hegel - explained the dialectic between rule and servitude. His writing is considered groundbreaking for modern theories on the freedom of the individual and is perhaps more relevant today than ever.

Since 2023, the philosophical practitioner Dorothea Sophie Höck and the Kunsthaus Erfurt have been inviting interested parties to regular salon discussions in the gallery at the Kunsthaus Erfurt. The Philosophical Salon takes place once a month on a Wednesday evening. Interested and thoughtful people are invited. No previous knowledge of philosophy is required.

A contribution towards expenses of 5 euros or more is requested on site. The next Philosophical Salon will take place in the 2nd half of 2025.
