Piano Days Düsseldorf 26
In the organizer's words:
PIANO DAYS DUESSELDORF '26
As in previous years, Düsseldorf is once again celebrating PIANO DAYS in 2026. During these days, various local and international artists will focus on the piano, interpret the instrument in their very own way and invite you to rediscover its sound again and again.
The Piano Days Düsseldorf will kick off in 2026 on Thursday, March 26 with a cinema evening at the Metropol. "Cabin Music" is the twenty-year project of pianist and filmmaker James Carson, with which he wants to revolutionize the way music is created. His award-winning documentary debut has been described as "meditative" (Time Out New York), "shimmering" (Feast of Music), "intensely beautiful" (Mystery Catalog) and "sublime" (The Independent Critic).
On Friday, March 27, Düsseldorf musician Thilo Schölpen will present the release concert of his new album "Opium" at the Theatermuseum - an exploration of psychedelic drone and ambient music, written for and played on a grand piano. The evening will be opened by the Cologne art-pop musician KLENZA with a pure solo piano set between jazz, pop, minimal and classical music. Melancholic motifs and spherical soundscapes meet changing, groovy passages - a set between structure and improvisation.
On Saturday, March 28, we welcome Leipzig pianist Clemens Christian Poetzsch, who will be performing pieces from his upcoming album "Nocturnes", which he describes as "contemporary music shaped by the night" and which he will be presenting for the first time in Düsseldorf on Piano Day. And also the Cologne pianist Mathieu Bech and his program "Somnia Oscula", which takes piano compositions from the Romantic period, enriches them and transfers them into the 21st century.
On Sunday afternoon, there will once again be a piano music matinee in the pool. Greek pianist Yiorgos Parisis will be the guest with his special blend of jazz minimalism, new classical music and slight hints of Hellenic motifs and harmonies. The festival will conclude with a performance by the Cologne duo Sutter&Wangen, who already captivated and delighted the Piano Days audience in 2024. Their dialog of cello and piano playing, supported by fine live electronics, creates an irresistible, lively mixture of neoclassical, new jazz and Cinéma Nordique.
