A movie by André Schäfer. 2024, length 91 min.
In 1905, Thomas Mann first made plans for an impostor novel based around the character Felix Krull. The first part of "The Confessions of Felix Krull the Impostor" was published in 1954, one year before the author's death. Thomas Mann packed everything into this life's work that he had carried around with him unspoken for 50 years. Dealing with his homosexuality. Pretending to be someone else and holding on to it until death is, on the one hand, imposture itself, and on the other, an expression of inner conflict. Mann's alter ego Felix Krull is not simply an escape fantasy, but the desire to be allowed to lead one's own life undisguised and unconcealed. In this film, Sebastian Schneider disguises himself as Felix Krull. He slips into many roles, with make-up ranging from garish to pink and perhaps as Thomas Mann would have wanted to see himself in reality.
After the screening, curator Stefan-Maria Mittendorf will talk to director André Schäfer.
