A Musical Journey Through Chinese Culture
As part of the50th anniversary of the Düsseldorf Society for German-Chinese Friendship (GDCF),we cordially invite you to a special concert evening.
The pipa is one of China’s oldest and most significant plucked string instruments. With a history spanning over two thousand years, it combines extraordinary virtuosity with a rich sonic language and evokes fascinating musical imagery—from tranquil landscapes to festive scenes and dramatic historical narratives.
Pipa playerJie Zhang (章婕)will present a carefully curated program featuring major works from the traditional and modern Chinese pipa repertoire.
The program includes, among other pieces:
- Dance of the Yi(彝族舞曲)
- Give Me a Rose(送我一支玫瑰花)
- Dance of the Golden Snake(金蛇狂舞)
- Spring Sun on White Snow(阳春白雪)
- The Heroic Sisters of the Steppe(草原英雄小姐妹)
- Ten-Sided Ambush(十面埋伏)
Brief introductions to the works provide insights into the Chinese musical tradition and the cultural backgrounds of the compositions. This makes the concert a special listening experience even for visitors with no prior knowledge.
Experience an evening full of sound, virtuosity, and cultural exchange, and discover the fascinating world of the Chinese pipa.
