Planet MEER- Terra X Live

In the organizer's words:

The ocean is wild!

The oceans cover more than two-thirds of our planet—and yet we know surprisingly little about the planet’s largest habitat. In his new live show “Planet MEER – Terra X live,” renowned marine biologist, research diver, and Terra X host Uli Kunz takes his audience on a journey into the mysterious underwater world.

Marine biologist and cameraman Uli Kunz regularly takes part in expeditions, dives with humpback whales and orcas, and explores massive caves in Mexico and remote fjords in Greenland.

Uli is also fascinated by the more inconspicuous creatures of the sea and searches the lightless depths for slimy worms, jellyfish, and prehistoric crabs. He regularly goes on tour with his lectures to spark enthusiasm for the largest habitat on our planet through images and stories.

In his new show “Planet MEER,” Uli dives to unique stone pillars off the coast of Greenland, harvests seaweed, and visits a whale graveyard beneath thick ice. He encounters bizarre deep-sea creatures, meets marine conservationists dedicated to preserving the oceans, observes endangered fish species, retrieves ghost nets, and discovers what meaningful nature conservation can look like. Speaking of meaning: What is the point of a jellyfish, anyway? Let’s find out.

Documentary series on Terra X with Uli Kunz

Biography:

Uli is a marine biologist. Photographer. Research diver. Host. Lover of utter nonsense. Afraid of water. Actually, nothing special. He just happens to have a somewhat unusual job. He used to want to be a neurosurgeon. Today, he collects whale poop. “What a stellar career,” says his mother.

When people hear “research diver” and “underwater photographer,” most think of palm-fringed islands and colorful coral reefs. But Uli works mainly in cold water and murky conditions in the North Sea and Baltic Sea, or crawls through dark caves with heavy gear.

In Uli’s day-to-day life, there are no vacation days and no Christmas bonus, no set working hours, and rarely a boss. That might sound tempting to some. But like any office, this version of the workplace has its pitfalls. Without a healthy dose of humor, teamwork, and patience, he would have given up in despair long ago and thrown his equipment into the corner in a fit of rage.

In addition to his work in marine research and nature conservation, he hosts the ZDF series “Faszination Wasser” on Terra X, writes children’s books, and rides a red rubber boat and a blue folding bike.
