(D) – Post-punk/Noise rock/Wave
"Supported by Initiative Musik and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM)"
Plattenbau is an internationally diverse Berlin-based quartet that blends elements of post-punk, noise rock, and wave into a dark, intense brew. Plattenbau’s sound combines mechanical-sounding drums, goth-tinged basslines, mystical guitars, and paranoid, wailing synths into a mix reminiscent of the soundtrack to a 90s horror film. The whole is held together by intimate, deep, and dark vocals. The result is a soundscape that feels both chaotic and carefully composed—true to their motto: “Tight, loose, and evil.”
The band was founded in 2011, inspired by the brutalist architecture of East Berlin’s post-Soviet landscape. As an integral part of the Berlin underground scene, the band evolved over the years both personally and in their sound until they found their current lineup.
Since 2021, they have released their second and third studio albums, “Shape / Shifting” (2022) and “Net Prophet” (2023), which they presented on extensive tours through Europe and the U.S.—including appearances at SXSW and the New Colossus Festival in New York, as well as the closing concert at the Bowery Ballroom with A Place To Bury Strangers.
“Held In A Curse,” released in September 2024, was the first in a series of new singles that delve even deeper into their paranoid cyber universe. This was followed by the anthemic track “Revenge Body” and, most recently, the current single “Progress” featuring guest vocals by Carmen from Berlin’s cult darkwave trio “Die Anstalt.” This was released as a limited-edition split 7" vinyl, accompanied by a mini-tour and music videos from both bands.
