We are not the only ones who have been culturally inspired by Polling: Thomas Mann's novel Doctor Faustus is set here - the author himself spent many vacations in Polling, where his mother and sister lived. At polliphonic Performance, the text and the music become the stage: actor Thomas Loibl reads, speaks and plays the novella "Death in Venice" interwoven with the guitar accompaniment of Perry Schack in a constant dialog of word and sound, sound and word, like the swell on the Lido with a view of the wondrous lagoon city.
The artists
Thomas Loibl's training was followed by engagements at theaters in Düsseldorf, Munich, Cologne, at the Schauspielhaus Zurich and most recently at the Burgtheater Vienna. He has appeared in film and television productions such as Toni Erdmann, Sommer in Orange and Charité. In 2023, he performed Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis as part of the polliphonic music festival.
The Munich guitarist Perry Schack gives 70 concerts a year worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician. He is part of the Machado Quartet and plays regularly with his flute partner K. Kaczka. Several of Schack's CDs have already been released by Acte Préalable and Munich Records.
The location
The library hall in the former Polling monastery is known beyond the region for its fantastic acoustics. Built in the 18th century, it was restored by the "Verein der Freunde des Pollinger Bibliotheksaales" and given a new purpose as a concert hall for chamber music.
