DETAILS
Friday, July 10, from 2:00–6:00 p.m.
Saturday, July 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sunday, July 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In this workshop, we’ll use the coil-building and pinching techniques to create beautiful shapes and vessels such as teapots or moonjars, guided by Kiho Kang’s expertise. Open to anyone—regardless of prior experience—who wants to refine their craft.
Coiling is the oldest method of shaping vessels. For many centuries, this type of vessel-making has been practiced across all cultures.
Kiho Kang creates functional geometric vessels and objects by building each piece with coils and pinching it slowly, step by step—a method that has led him to a more deliberate approach to working with the material, giving each piece a unique tactile quality. He learned his craft in South Korea and in Germany’s clay-rich Westerwald region. The simplicity and texture of his pieces reflect the time and craftsmanship that have gone into their creation.
There will be a lunch option on Saturday featuring healthy Korean food from Sunbap.
Materials and firing are charged separately, based on the amount of clay used (per kg); firing costs 10€/kg. Please cancel your class at least 30 days in advance by email to receive a refund.
STEPS
After drying for 10 days, the pieces will be fired and then glazed with a transparent layer by us and fired once more before you can hold them in your hands.
The workshops are held in German (English is also available).
