Das Nu Soul Festival Prater Sessions kehrt mit einem weiteren Open Air zurück auf die Praterinsel, wo sich die Veranstaltungsreihe 2021 etablierte. Nach großem Anklang und noch dazu frisch ausgezeichnet mit der Pop-Programmförderung der Stadt München, geht es nun endlich in die nächste Runde. Die Livebands MAURA, TAMALA und AIKEN zusammen mit unseren Residents CELLZ und MASCHASCH (DJ) versprechen ein vielfältiges und fein kuratiertes Programm. Bunt und unbekümmert versprechen wir euch VIBES!

MAURA
Maura is a singer/rapper who moves playfully between dreamy jazz vocals, catchy melodies, and Rap and does so with a great amount of energy. According to music journalist Mona Lina (A&R Pias), she can be considered one of the most exciting underdogs of the German music scene. She released her debut LP "Grimus" together with producer Fred Red and multi-instrumentalist Malik Diao in 2021 and also released a Single on the UK Label "Village Life Records". Currently, she works on new music with musicians such as Jenny Penkin and great releases can be expected for 2023. For her live shows, she teams up with some of Berlin's finest jazz musicians and creates an energetic performance for a broad audience by connecting elements of Jazz, Soultronica, Rap, Dream Pop, and alternative RnB into her unique style.

TAMALA
Tamala is the newly formed collective of Michael K (Uganda), ZAZA (Senegal) and Filipo (Uganda) out of Munich, Germany. Tamala blends traditional African Rhythms with modern Jazz, Funk, Rock and Reggae. All of their members are singers, composers and multi-instrumentalist promising a multifaceted and vibrant performance. As part of the African Diaspora they intend to address social- and political issues next to their personal experiences. In order to make each show an even richer and more diverse experience the trio likes to spontaneously collaborate with changing talents. Tamala demonstrates the power of cultural exchange to create something new and exciting.

CELLZ
Cellz is a German/South African artist and saxophone player hailing from Munich. He holds a passion for Soul & RnB, Hip-Hop, Jazz and everything slotted in between. While making his name on the live circuit as a community driven artist, he very much loves to collaborate globally. For instance, he released music with Fatbabs from France, Depart from Istanbul, with Marc Ronin from Cape Town and Blue Glass from Antigua. Blue Glass collaborated on "I Saw Her On The Beach" and "Dream On". With the likes of several magazines and radio stations (Notion, Worldplay, Soultracks, Earmilk, Hwing, Vents, Music Crowns, Purple Melon, Jazz FM, Downtown Radio, North Manchester FM…) they gained attention in the UK and US. For his latest release “What We Gonna Do” he paired with Viva Con Agua Music. Cellz performs with his band of five: Ari Sev (Guitar), Osono (Bass), David Martine (Drums), J. Mute (Trumpet) and Kandy (Keys).

AIKEN
Aiken is an emerging Albanian neo-soul singer based in Munich. His quintet, a group of jazz musicians, has managed to craft its own sound: loyal to traditional neo-soul elements, they vary their groovy sound by mixing in hints of swing and art pop. “I want to make a small tribute to the artists that have shaped me musically,” says Aiken. “Artists who have influenced my sound, the music I listen to.” Songs by Erykah Badu, Hiatus Kaiyote and Jordan Rakei, among other artists. Whether you're a lover of Neo Soul, or simply enjoy good music, their performance is not to be missed. The band members are: Jakob (Drums), Ashid (Bass), Pablo (Keys) and Rei (Guitar) and Aiken (Vocals).

Maschasch is one of our beloved resident DJs. He incorporates selected influences from his Funk/Disco & House background into his main focus of breakbeat bass music and experimental sound scapes. He attracts Munich's beautiful alternative scene of tomorrow. Watch him bounce and you'll feel at home.
