Iraq in the 90s. While dictator Saddam Hussein celebrates his birthday nationwide despite hardship and scarcity, 9-year-old Lamia has a dreaded task at her school: she has to bake the cake for the local celebrations. It is an almost impossible task, as there is a shortage of food in the country. Eggs, sugar and flour are even scarcer.

With just two days to spare, the support of her classmate Saeed and accompanied by her rooster Hindi, she sets off to find the ingredients in the nearest town. It is an adventurous quest through a world full of uncertainty and hardship, but also small miracles, in which Lamia experiences moments of humor, friendship and hope time and again.
