A Century of Photographic Art: Eva Rubinstein is Honored on Her 93rd Birthday with Exhibitions, a Book Launch, and a Film Premiere in Düsseldorf

The internationally renowned New York-based photographer Eva Rubinstein turned 93 on August 18, 2026. To mark the occasion, the art city of Düsseldorf is honoring the artist’s extraordinary life’s work with a dual exhibition project at theClara Maria Sels Gallery and the Museum Schloss Benrath, as well as a book launch and the premiere of the documentary film “A Conversation with Eva Rubinstein” in the presence of New York-based director Renate Aller. Eva Rubinstein will join the openings live from the U. S.

THE PROGRAM:

Opening, Film Premiere, and Book Presentation at the Clara Maria Sels Gallery
The event kicks off on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 7 p.m. with an exclusive preview at the Clara Maria Sels Gallery. In addition to the presentation of the book, the official premiere of the documentary film about Eva Rubinstein will take place here.

The film “A Conversation with Eva Rubinstein” was directed by New York-based photographer Renate Aller and accompanies the book *Eva Rubinstein: Photography*, offering a very personal look at the life and work of the artist, who is now 93 years old.

The renowned New York-based photographer and director Renate Aller directed this intimate film portrait and will be present in person to engage with the audience.

The 290-page publication is intended as a tribute to Eva Rubinstein and her work. It brings together an extensive selection of photographs from 1967 to 1995 with personal conversations, memories, and previously little-known private photographs. The result is an exceptionally personal portrait of the artist, in which Eva Rubinstein herself tells her story and offers insights into the development of her visual world. The book not only documents the work of a significant 20th-century photographer but also preserves her own voice.

Museum Exhibition at Benrath Palace
OnWednesday, September 2, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., the grand opening of the comprehensive retrospective “Eva Rubinstein. Proof of Life” will take place at the Museum of Garden Art at Benrath Palace. In cooperation with the Clara Maria Sels Gallery, approximately 150 vintage prints—created and signed by the artist herself—will be on display.

The exhibition runs through October 31, 2026.
