Prinze Ÿ: FEUERROT

Winner of some of the most important competitions at the age of 20, professor at the Munich Academy of Music at 30 - Maximilian Hornung, our current Artist in Residence, is an absolute shooting star. He even gave up his post as first cellist of the BR Symphony Orchestra to devote himself entirely to his performances as a soloist and chamber musician. This season, he can be heard here several times. In the Prinzregententheater, he will present Bohuslav Martinů's highly original cello concerto, whose rhythmic drive comes from the folk music of his native Czech Republic - a connection to the great father Antonín Dvořák. After the interval, things turned magical: Ravel set stories such as "Sleeping Beauty" and "Beauty and the Beast" in enchantingly beautiful tones under the title "Mother Goose". Stravinsky celebrated his breakthrough as a high-flyer among 20th century composers with the fiery red and sparkling ballet "The Firebird" about a prince and his magical feathered companion.
